1965 Arthur Prysock (S, A) U.S. (Old Town 1185). The first recording. The original demo track plus strings and Prysock’s vocal. Album: “Mr. Prysock & Guest” on Old Town. Surprisingly, this is the only 45 of the song ever available in the U.S., and one of the few versions that has never appeared on any compilation.
1966 Mighty Sparrow/Byron Lee (A) Jamaica. “Sparrow Meets The Dragon”. Listed as: “Only A Fool”; no composer/publisher credits. Same LP now on CD, proper credits; now as title song.
